22IB KES Prospectus 200

Dominic, Year 12

KES is an amazing sixth form that offers loads of opportunities and provides a welcoming, enjoyable place to learn in.

Why did you choose to study at KES Sixth Form?

From going to all the open evenings and having gone to KES high school, I knew that the sixth form had many amazing opportunities to offer and that all the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

What are your favourite extra-curricular activities to take part in?

Some of my favourite extra-curricular activities include being a part of the events committee and getting to plan interesting and fun events for the sixth form. I also really enjoy being a part of the drama technical team as it gives me something really fun to do alongside my studies. The sixth form has loads of activities to join in with, and I really like having the opportunity to try out new things and meet new people!

How supported to learn and try out new things do you feel at KES Sixth Form?

The sixth-form team are really supportive of us. They encourage us to get involved with loads of new activities through the enrichment sessions as well as outside of school activities. They also support our learning by providing us with great spaces and all the resources we need to make the most of our revision time.

What do you plan to do once you leave KES Sixth Form?

I don't have any solid plans as to what I want to do yet, although I do have some rough ideas. The sixth-form team are great at helping us decide what our next steps are and are always on hand to answer any questions we might have. They are always really supportive in getting us to our next destination no matter what that may look like.

What would be your advice to students looking to start at KES Sixth Form?

Honestly, just go for it! KES sixth-form is an amazing place to learn, meet new people and try new things. The sixth-form team and all the teaching staff are very friendly and welcoming as well as very helpful. There is a real community spirit within the school that I think is hard to find anywhere else and makes everyone feel welcome and included within the school.

Don't be afraid of meeting new people either. Both staff and students are so friendly and welcoming. The house events (both whole-school and sixth-form only) and enrichment activities that the school offers give you a great opportunity to get involved with the community, and try something new!

While there is a lot of work to be done, KES makes it so much more enjoyable by being a great environment to study in, through both the independent study room as well as the group study rooms. The staff are always on hand to help with revision or any questions and are more than happy to help!

My advice would be to make sure you’re effective with your time management because the workload can seem overwhelming in the beginning, especially because there’s such a large gap between expectations of GCSE’s compared to A-Levels.

Alina, Year 13

Why did you choose to study at KES Sixth Form?

Studying A-Levels at KES has been an academically rigorous and intellectually stimulating experience. Studying in the refurbished library is a rejuvenating experience and learning in state of the art of laboratories is vital for conceptualising scientific concepts. The fantastic pastoral support and guidance offered is unrivalled.

Gaining an offer from Oxford University to study medicine is undoubtedly my proudest academic achievement. I would like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers for inspiring and motivating me to strive for academic excellence and writing references which have enabled me to participate in schemes organised by Oxford and Cambridge.

What are your favourite extra-curricular activities to take part in?

As president of Debating Society I love organising debates, engaging in intellectually enriching conversations and broadening my intellectual horizon by exploring eclectic and zeitgeisty issues spanning from ever-evolving advancements in geopolitics to antimicrobial resistance.

KES Sixth Form is marvellous, the dedicated supervision provided by expert teachers is invaluable in crafting an exquisite and bespoke personal statement.

Caitlin, Year 13

How supported to learn and try out new things do you feel at KES Sixth Form?

Fully supported. Staff go above and beyond to give you the support you may need but still allow you to have the independence necessary to get used to being an adult in the working world.

What would be your advice to students looking to start at KES Sixth Form?

Study a subject you enjoy but also make sure you plan ahead with what it is you want to do in life- explore all options available to you and don’t accept your first offer if you’re unsure. Participate in as many extra-curricular activities/classes you can to get yourself ahead of the competition and stand out in applications. It’s not just about the grades you receive at the end of your course.
