If you enjoyed any sort of Design and Technology at GCSE this is definitely the course for you! You will be expected to work hard and will be taught many things to transform you into a designer.
The Basics…
EDEXCEL A-Level in Design and Technology – Product Design 50% Coursework / 50% Exam.
What will I learn?
Topics you will study include:

- Performance characteristics of materials
- Processes and techniques
- Digital technologies
- Factors influencing the development of products
- Effects of technological developments
- Current legislation
- Potential hazards and risk assessment
- Features of manufacturing industries
- Further processes and techniques
- Designing for maintenance and the cleaner environment
- Information handling, Modelling and forward planning
You will also be taught how render designs using spirit markers, use industry standard 3D CAD software and many practical techniques whilst designing and making different products.
Anything else I need to know?
In your second year you will be able to specialise in one of the following areas:
- Product Design
- Graphic Design
- Architecture
- Interior Design.
There is a maths element to this qualification which is the standard of the higher tier GCSE in Mathematics.
