U18s National Cup Football Quarter-Final Run for KES Academy
BackExcitement was brewing at King Edward VII Academy on Friday 10th February as the football team outranked over 540 schools to reach the quarter-finals of the Under 18’s Cup! Although the KES Academy football team was defeated 7 nil by current cup holders, Brook House, reaching such a late stage of the competition and seeing themselves as one of only eight teams left in the competition was a massive achievement for the Norfolk school team.
The intense, fast-paced game took place at Heacham FC and we thank them for their use of their pitch and hospitality on the day. The KES Academy footballers worked hard in the game.
Principal of KES, Sarah Hartshorn said:
“I am so proud of the achievements of our young gentleman; it is an historic event for King Edward VII Academy to be part of the last 8 schools in the country.”
Head of Sixth Form, Alistair White said:
“Getting into the last 8 of Any national competition is a wonderful achievement. Our football program continues to grow from strength to strength.”
On their journey through the competition, KES Academy showed their capability with wins against Gresham’s School, Wymondham College, Northgate High School, Hampton College and Cardinal Vaughan Memorial RC School.
Team Manager and Head of Year 7 at KES, Danny Gay said:
“The boys need a pat on the back, the hours of training with Alex and his team shows the commitment needed to succeed not just in football but life. We are all so proud of the boys.”
Throughout this competition the partnership between KES Academy and Kings Lynn Town FC has grown, producing two players that have gone on to make first-team debuts and a further three players that have made the squad on match day for the Linnets. This successful programme has seen a 100% pass rate last year on the sports education course, alongside a daily football programme led by Alex Cross.
Academy Football Manager, Alex Cross said:
“Fantastic achievement from all the players with full backing from the school during the competition, which certainly helped in getting to the last 8. Our players can be proud of their achievements with some great memories along the way particularly at Cardinal Vaughan scoring and celebrating in front of one of the great stadiums in Twickenham. A special mention to Danny Gay & Ross McNeil for their help along the way, they both understand and want the partnership to succeed as much as anyone, great football people whilst being excellent ambassadors for football in the local area.”
