KES Academy Year 7 Football Team Take Home the County Championship Cup
BackOn Tuesday 9th May, King Edward VII Academy Year 7 football team won the county championships in an excellent final game at Aylsham Football Club against Sprowston Community Academy.
In the final game of the championships, both teams showed their high level of quality. Sprowston started brightly and we went 2-0 up quickly. However, after a team talk with their coach, Danny Gay advising the team “Hard work wins finals”, the team began working hard with and without the ball. This led to KES receiving a penalty just before half time with team member, Issac scoring 2-1.
In the second half, KES worked hard and dominated the game. The team equalised, thanks to team member, Kai scoring, and went on and hit the post as well as a couple more chances. However, the game ended and went to extra time. There were no goals in extra time so the game went onto penalties. Goalie, Dillion missed first his penalty before saving the next one. Team members, Alfie, Ammend, Kai and Issac all scored, before Dillion saved again and Luca scored the winning penalty.
The team proudly wore their medals to school the following day, and were congratulated by their peers and teachers for their outstanding efforts in representing their school.
The winning streak continues for King Edward VII Academy as in March of this year, KES Academy rugby team won the county championships in a tense final game against Wymondham College.
Principal of King Edward VII Academy, Sarah Hartshorn said:
“KES is on a roll with their sporting successes this year! I am so very proud of our Year 7 boys, they showed such determination and sportsmanship. Their faces beamed when they attended the next day with their medals around their necks. Well done all involved!”
Danny Gay, head of Year 7 at KES, said:
"I'm really pleased for the team. They've worked so hard since joining the Academy and the hard work that they've put in has got them the rewards."
