Whodunnit with a Twist! Student’s Theatre Production of ‘Hidden Meanings’ Proves a Big Hit
BackOn the evenings of Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March, students at King Edward VII Academy took to the stage in the Great Hall to perform ‘Hidden Meanings’, a comedy by Michael Snelgrove.
Students from Years 7 to 13 got involved in all aspects of the production which was a fantastic group effort. The cast performed confidently and enthusiastically, and there was great chemistry and brilliant comedic timing. Those that weren’t involved in the production cast were involved in all aspects of the behind the scenes including building the set, managing the stage, lighting and sound, and assisting with costumes and hair.
Audiences were treated to an enjoyable evening full of laughter. The play, ‘Hidden Meanings’ is a dark-comedy full of strange twists and turns, which tells the story of Rodney and George who are to provide a dramatic interlude for the Annual Congress of the Sherlock Holmes Society but Rodney may or may not have killed one of their colleagues.
Ms Shields, KES Drama teacher and director of the performance said:
“I'm pleased and grateful to say that the KES 2024 production of Michael Snelgrove's 'Hidden Meanings' was a roaring success! The cast worked tirelessly to hone their acting and comedic timing, which paid off greatly. They all shone in their roles and were very funny. Their friends, families, teachers and I are all proud of them for their achievements.
We couldn't have done it without the dedicated team of backstage, lighting, and sound technician students and the support of the principal, Mr Hollingsworth, and the vice principal, Mrs Backham. What super memories to cherish! We can't wait for the next one.”
