King Edward VII Academy Sixth Form Celebrates A-Level Results

Students of King Edward VII Academy Sixth Form have once again secured a superb set of A-Level results with 70% of all grades at A*-C.

After years of dedication to their studies, students have achieved their very best and have the skills and knowledge they need to reach their full potential. These results mean that this is the eighth successive year that once again 100% of students achieved a place at university, an apprenticeship or full-time employment.

Darren Hollingsworth, Principal said: 

“As Principal, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all of our A Level students on their achievements this summer. These results are the product of resilience and determination, and they reflect the character and ambition that make KES such a special community. Building on the notable success of last year, KES has improved even further, with this year's cohort delivering our strongest set of outcomes for many years against key government performance measures. We are immensely proud not only of the grades achieved, but also of the progress made, with students consistently surpassing expectations and securing exciting destinations beyond sixth form. 

These outcomes tell a powerful story about what is possible when talent is matched with hard work, and when aspiration is supported by exceptional teaching and unwavering pastoral care. At KES, we have always believed that education is about opening doors and transforming lives. This year's results are yet another reminder that KES students are capable of extraordinary things. To every student, member of staff and family who has contributed to this success, thank you. Today we celebrate not just grades, but the culmination of years of dedication and the beginning of exciting new chapters. We could not be prouder.” 

Each year, an exceptional student from King Edward VII Academy is selected for the prestigious Gold Medal Award received from the King in an in-person awards ceremony. King Edward VII Academy is delighted to announce this year’s winner as Sam Doughty who achieved monumental results of A* A* A* A*. 

Sam Doughty said: 

"I'm super proud of my results and really excited to be starting uni at York in September. Thank you to the entire 6th form team and all the teachers at KES for being such incredible support throughout my time there!"

The sixth form is delighted to have achieved another year of Level 3 success. This includes a 100% pass rate in the Sport & Physical Activity and Health & Social Care courses with those taking the extended diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels) achieving an average grade of Distinction*. 

Alistair White, Head of Sixth Form said: 

“We are delighted with this year’s results, which reflect the hard work and determination of our students, supported by the dedication of our staff and families. Outcomes have improved across every measure, with the average grade rising to a C+, 22% of grades at A*- A and a value-added score of +0.21 demonstrating the excellent progress students make with us.  

We are particularly proud of our highest achievers, including Sam Doughty, who achieved four A* grades; Sophie Glover and Lily Reed, who both secured A* A* A and Isla Lynch, who gained A*A and a Distinction*. Outstanding vocational results were also achieved by Holly Bantoft, with Triple Distinction* and a B grade, and Tom Beattie, Jack Bunting, Erin Chandler, Elizabet Puckova and Sam Keenoy all of whom achieved Triple Distinction* These results highlight the strength of both our academic and vocational pathways and will open exciting opportunities for our students as they progress to university, apprenticeships and employment. We congratulate all students on their achievements and wish them every success in the future.” 

Open Day 

King Edward VII Academy Sixth Form will be hosting its annual Open Day on Thursday 16th October from 5:30pm to 8pm and encourage those interested in applying for the sixth form to attend for a tour of its magnificent building and state-of-the-art facilities, and speak to current students, teachers, and the principal.
